101 Best Pizza in America from the Daily Meal

The die has been cast. There is no going back…The votes have been cast…

    The results are in!

Who makes the Best Pizza in America?

    The Daily Meal Knows….

The Daily Meal finished tabulating their list for the 101 Best Pizzas in America.

This has turned into an annual event for the gang at The Daily Meal…the results are always apizzamazing!

And this year was no exception…

The panel was comprised of over 100 pizza experts. The pizza crew was a cross section of experts in the pizza world. Including Chefs, food critics, bloggers and pizza fanatics

I was honored participate in voting.  To be part of such an illustrious group is humbling…

Over 800 pizza places were considered…The field of entries was whittled down to the final 101…

This was no geographical list of pizzerias.  This wasn’t the best in each region. Each pizzeria had to stand on its own… The criteria was simple: the best of the best…

And I really respected that about the voting…

    What pizzerias made the cut?

I was happy to see many of my favorite pizzerias of all time represented:

    Here’s the video:

     There were some obvious choices…

Una Pizzeria Napoletana as well as Tony’s Pizza Napoletana both from San Francisco made the cut.

Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix, was there, Apizza Scholls from Portland, Metro Pizza and Pizza Rock in Las Vegas was there.

Ketste’s, Grimaldi’s   Totonno’s, Di Fara’s  and Paulie Gee all from New York were there,

Varasano’s from Atlanta was also there.,

And I’m sure you are wondering: Did my favorite pizzeria make the list?

I was totally amazed Connecticut pizza and in particular the  City of New Haven was well represented.. such wonderful pizza places such as Pepe’s, Roseland, Zuppardi’s, Earnie’s, and Modern Apizza all made the cut.

I was honored to be part of the voting. I was in some great company.

Any time I’m on the list with Andrew Zimern, Mark Bello, and Scott Weiner, its always a good thing!

How could you ignore Buffalo, NY pizzas? Bocce’s, Leonardi’s, LaNova, Franco’s, Santora’s and more all would easily beat a lot of the pizzas on your list. This is a major error on your part. Also, I have relatives in the Old Forge, Pa. area and have eaten their pizza for 60 years and I can tell you they deserve to be much higher on the list. I think too many favorites were taken for granted.

John I appreciate your passion for pizza and in particular your passion for Buffalo Pizza.
While this may have been my major error…I only voted.
I did not compile the list.
And one of the rules of voting was that you had to personally sample the pizza.
You can bet the next time i’m in Buffalo, I will be visiting the pizzerias you mentioned. Again thanks for the feedback!
pizza on earth, and pizza all over Buffalo!

Pizza Shack in Philly didn’t make the cut. One of my more favorite spots in Philly for a good slice.
