Thousands of patients show up to the Emergency Room every year, with pizza injuries. Pizza can be dangerous.

According to The United States, Consumer Product Safety Commission  (USPCSC) pizza accounted for more than 2,300 visits to the Emergency Room in hospitals during 2017. That’s many pizza problems!

Pizza: Tales of Betrayal

USCPSC

People showed up for treatment of pizza cuts. That is cutting themselves while trying to slice pizza. Sure you need to be careful but make sure you are using a pizza wheel, to make your slices. Sure you can use other pizza slicers but remember, safety first!

Others showed up with pizza burns, caused by eating hot pizza. I hear you! I have gotten burned more than once by shoving a hot pizza in my mouth. Ed Levine covers this injury “Pizza Burn” in “Pizza A Slice of Heaven”.This injury as Ed notes can be excruciating and can last a week or more.

Pizza pans caused other pizza burns.  An easy fix by just using good oven mitts.

Or just a great set of quality pot holders.

Many of the pizza injuries were caused by falling with pizza. These included falling while carrying pizza or falling down in a pizza restaurant. Let’s reduce the number of pizza falls!

One of the injuries included someone who injured themselves by falling out of bed while reaching for pizza.

Many thanks to the  US Product and Safety Commission

Just remember, pizza doesn’t hurt people, people hurt themselves with pizza.

Here are some pizza safety tips:

Be careful cutting pizza. Let the pizza cool before you bite into it… Use oven mitts if you grab a pizza pan… watch your step-in pizza places!  If you work in a pizza place, consider getting these restaurant shoes.

And if you must eat pizza in bed, before you grab that slice, be careful!

I just had to create a video about this:

Philip shares the following pizza tale:
“Thanks Albert. When I was a wee lad, my mom was handing me a carryout pizza while I was sitting in the back seat of the car, and the pizza slid out of the box and onto my lap.2nd degree burns followed, but I did manage to save a couple of slices to eat while on the way to the emergency room!
