This post will try to answer the question “Is Pizza Healthier than a bowl of cereal?”

Chelsy Amer, a Nutritionist was asked by her friend and editor of the Daily Meal, is pizza a healthier alternative to a bowl of cereal…

Her response was: “pizza can actually be a more balanced breakfast option than most breakfast cereals.”

“You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories,” explained Chelsey Amer, MS, RDN, CDN to The Daily Meal. “However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”

This created a firestorm of headlines across the Internet and beyond… such as this one:
The Daily meal stated: Pizza Is a Healthier Breakfast Than Most Cereals

The Chicago Tribune basically said the same thing

The New York Post ran this headline: Nutritionist claims pizza is a healthier breakfast than cereal

Chelsey was interviewed on CBS2 in Philly and clarified her stance…”I’m not endorsing pizza as the healthiest breakfast option out there…” Well, thank you, Chelsey…
I’ll put links to these stories and Chelsey’s blog Citnutirionally below the video.

“My opinion? Pizza is a great anytime food…Eat it for lunch breakfast and dinner…Healthy or not, pizza just tastes good…Pizza is a magical disc that makes things happen.”

Pizza on earth and pizza for breakfast doesn’t sound bad…

Here is my video review of the question: Is Pizza Healthier than Cereal?
All opinions stated are entirely my own. Review this yourself to form your own opinion…

What do you think?  I’ve had leftover pizza for breakfast on countless occasions. I honestly think my homemade pizza tastes better the next day when reheated. I know many professional pizza makers particularly those who make Neapolitan pizza claim their pizza does not travel well and should be eaten when it comes out of the oven for maximum flavor.

To tell you the truth, I have reheated Neapolitan pizza for breakfast and it just tasted great! But that is just my take…

I would love to hear your opinion. You will be adding to the knowledge of all things pizza of pizza. Your opinion is important. Please comment and let me know what you think. And show some pizza love and subscribe to the Pizza Therapy Channel on YouTube.

    1. Hiram Davis says:

Nobody is mentioning the number of carbohydrates. They can be as, if not more, important than fat and/or calories. I actually jumped aboard this idea until I looked it up. Nice idea, though.

    2. Freth says:

Eating a bowl of sugar & flavorings (most cereal) vs. a pizza? Even shredded wheat is “frosted” now in a heavy layer of sugar. Take a walk down the cereal aisle at Wal-Mart … exactly how many people do you think are eating Old Fashioned Rolled Oats? (With only a packet of pink sweetener on it)
Pizza looks like a healthier choice to me. A n d tastier too!
