1. What's New: Sally's Apizza is on-line and Pepe's Finally Delivers I am pleased to announce Sally's Apizza is now on the Internet. The website is really a labor of love put together by some die-hard Sally's Fans who also happen to be Yale graduates. You can read all about the news of Sally's website on my blog: Pizza Notes. Here is the link: Albert's Pizza Notes Blog about Sally's website.
Over the years, I have gotten countless questions about pizza. Many questions have to do with making pizza. Many have to do with recreating a special pizza done by a pizzeria. Many have to do with finding pizza. Believe it or not there is one question I have gotten more than any other. As a matter of fact, I have gotten this question so much, I have a file that I send to anyone who asks. Here's the question: Does Pepe's deliver? My answer has always been a resounding: NO. The answer all changed with an e-mail I received recently. The new answer is contained in my blog. Pizza Notes: Here is the
link with my brand new answer:
2. Pizza Wars: Rachael
Ray Offers a Pizza Smack-down: Rachel Ray, America's Cooking Sweetheart, recently sailed into a sea of controversy. Who make's the best pizza: New York or Chicago? Here is what happened: "Over 100,000 people voted for their favorite pizza joint in each city: for Chicago, the Home Run Inn was voted #1, and New Yorkers chose Gaby's Pizza as the best place to grab a slice. Rachael invites both pizzerias and dozens of their fans to her New York City studio" Now the truth of the matter is that Rachel is from New York (alright, Upstate New York, but still New York). I'm not saying Rachel is biased, but I think all of the facts need to come out. To her credit she exclaimed: "Hey, I'm not getting in the middle of this!" She tried to eliminate any pizza vote padding by using three television Judges as her panel. She had Judge Joe Brown, Judge Lynn Toler and Judge Alex Ferrer on the the pizza bench. You can see for yourself
what happened on Rachael's show, which aired on April 25, 2007. You can watch a clip of a news story of the show broadcast on Cannel 2 in Chicago, > here. The Chicago Tribune also covered the event. Here's > what the Trib said. Robert wrote and shared a Best Pizza of New York Guide, here. Find the Best Pizza in Chicago Guide, here.
3. Pizza: A Slice of Heaven a Review by Albert Grande, The Pizza Promoter This is a review of one of my favorite pizza resources of all time: Ed Levine takes his pizza seriously. He consumed over a thousand slices in twelve months, in twenty states and several countries. The result of this journey, Pizza: A Slice of Heaven by Ed Levine, is a volume dedicated to America’s favorite food. Levine reviews all manner of pizza and pizzerias. He tries the fantastic as well as the mediocre. He begins his quest at the source of all pizza, Naples, Italy. He samples pizza from the East to the West Coast and many places in between. His focus is on pizza so memorable that his heart pounds just thinking about it. Levine has developed his own rubric for rating pizza. He notes the criterion is the fuel source, the oven, the crust, the mozzarella, the sauce and the balance. Read the rest of the review here...
4. Pizza in Hawaii Revisited When ever I am asked for a recommendation for the Best pizza in Hawaii, I have the answer. I really like Antonio's New York Style Pizza, located in Kahala and on the other end of the island I recommend: Spaghettini’s located on Oahu's North Shore, in my former home-town of Haleiwa. Tom just visited Hawaii, and wrote: "Check out my “slice” at Spaghettini’s
at North Shore. (Notice the shirt, hahahah) It was VERY good. We also
went to Antonio’s on Oahu. No reports on “Big Island pizza” sorry
Thank you so much for your support. I have gotten great
