The Daily Meal did it again.

    The Daily Meal

    The Daily Meal

They created a listing of the 101 Best Pizzas in America 2017.

The call went out to 58 pizza experts, including Chefs, bloggers writers and pizza influencers.

And yes I was asked to cast my vote….

    101 Best Pizzas in America

    101 Best Pizzas in America

Here are some of the judges:

So who says the 101 pizzas on this list are the country’s best? A sampling of our panelists includes former longtime “Best New Restaurants” columnist for Esquire and author of Mariani’s Virtual Gourmet Newsletter John MarianiWorst Pizza’s Craig Agranoff, Real Food, Fake Food’s Larry Olmsted, Barbara and Eric Cheifet of Barb and Eric’s Pizza AdventuresTaste of New Haven’s Colin M. Caplan, filmmaker Gorman BechardA Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours’ Tony Muia, and Pizza Therapy’s Albert Grande. Obviously, when pizza is the topic at hand, these folks know what they’re talking about.

As usual, I was grateful and humbled to be included with such an illustrious group. These pizza experts are making me look good!

The group was geographically distinct and I must add severely opinionated. The only limitation was that votes could only be cast at pizzerias where they had eaten.

The list covered 23 states. The top 8 states for pizza included: New York, Illinois, California, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas and Massachusetts.

Dom Making Pizza                          (#6 Di Fara, NYC)

I must say there were a number of surprises on the list.

To find the complete list look below.

    Here is the article:

101 Best Pizza in America 2017, from The Daily Meal

#15 Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, San Francisco
    #42 Pizza Rock, Las Vegas

Many of my favorite pizza places made the cut, for example: Paulie Gee’s in New York (#50), Metro Pizza, Las Vegas (#96), Spacca Napoli, Chicago, (#26), and Tony Gemignani made the list twice with Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, San Francisco (#15) and Pizza Rock, Las Vegas (#42)and Keste Pizza and Vino (#4) and Di Fara  (#6) .

New Haven pizza was well represented with Pepe’s, Ernie’s, Sally’s, Modern and Zuppardi’s all on the list. You will just have to check the list yourself to see what your rating is!

Sadly some of my favorite pizza places were not nominated. Hopefully that will change for next year’s ballot.

Honestly, I thought the Recovery Room in New London, Connecticut deserved some consideration, as well as Billy Manzo’s incredible Federal Hill Pizza.

I was also somewhat disappointed with the number of pizza places in Hawaii that did not get nominated. The pizza game in Hawaii has dramatically improved over the last several years. On my short list are the following: Pacifico Pizza, located in Kaplolei, Brick Fire Tavern in Honolulu, as well as Pizza Corner in Ko ‘Olina and of course on the Island of Kauai: Pietro’s is making amazing pizza!

I need to give a shout out to Barb and Eric, who have a site called:

    Barb and Eric’s Pizza Adventures

    Barb and Eric's Pizza Adventure

    Barb and Eric’s Pizza Adventure

These two pizza fanatics not only create their own list of 101 best pizzas but they take road trips to try each of the pizzas on the list.

I have to raise a slice to them and wish them the best in all of their pizza adventures!

Their goal is to eat pizza each of the 101 Best Pizzas in America list which they did in 2015. And now they are working on the 2017 list as we speak. Onward, upward, Barb and Eric!

Had Pepe’s last night. Always the best. Santarpio’s in East Boston should rank higher. Thanks for the list.

How come First Last Tavern Hartford,CT did not make list
      coal fired and good pizza?
      My response:
      Great question…
I am not sure why many great pizzerias did not make the list.
I will say Connecticut was well represented though!
      Thanks for the comment!

Next time you are looking for some best pizza places in Las Vegas, try Anthony and Mario’s Broadway Pizzeria! It’s the closest thing to NYC pizza you can get on the west coast and one of my all time favorites!

Thanks for letting us know. I can’t wait to give Anthony and Mario’s a try. I am always on the hunt for great pizza. And as you know Las Vegas is a pizza town. There are lots of incredible pizza places in Vegas. And of course when Pizza Expo is in town, there is even more great pizza.

Love DailyMeal’s list every year. I’m glad Co. found it’s way back on after being snubbed last year. But where did 2Amys in DC go?
